Long story short - i'm looking for a relatively inexpensive secondary monitor that is:
27"
2560x1440
Freesync Premium Pro [AND] DisplayHDR600
(the combination of the two basically respresenting my minimum threshold for a valuable HDR experience).
**don't argue with me - this is the conclusion i reached with my LG 38WN95-C when playing Farcry5**
So, the iiyama G-Master GB2770QSU-B1:
Typically when monitor manufacturers quote brightness they quote the SDR brightness.
And if they reference HDR brightness it tends to be via the DisplayHDR certification.
Also typically, DisplayHDR600 monitors tend to have a minimum quoted SDR brightness of 400 cd/m².
But with this monitor they quote 400 cd/m² (unspecified), and say it is certified to DisplayHDR400...
My question:
Do you think this has a 400 cd/m² SDR brightness, and simply failed to meet the threshold for DisplayHDR600?
i.e. it doesn't have a panel array backlight, or perhaps it only reaches 550 cd/m² in HDR brightness.
Or, do we suspect iiyama are playing silly buggers here, and attempting to pass off peak HDR brightness (400 cd/m²), as SDR?
i.e. in which case, the SDR brightness could be something truly atrocious like 270 cd/m².
Implication:
If it is the former, I think that would be an entirely reasonable compromise for an affordable secondary monitor.
If it is the latter, then I won't touch it with a bargepole!
What do you think?
