Hello all,

So I am currently running a 43 inch 4k TV as a monitor, but I am finding it a bit too big for desk gaming. It is fun when you get into it though, lots of screen real estate.

I am considering going smaller and picking up this 34 inch ultrawide.
I have heard that there may be some resolution incompatibility with some games however.

Anyone here run ultrawide, would you recommend it?
What are your thoughts on this particular monitor? It's got a high refresh rate and a good resolution.

Any thoughts welcome.

I have both a 43" gaming monitor and a 34" ultrawide and i mainly use the ultrawide for pc gaming/desktop usage and the 43" for console gaming.

Most modern games support ultrawide just fine and are displayed correctly without image stretching, best thing to do is check what games you currently play first and see if they have support it.

The monitor looks very good specification wise 144hz ips panel twin hdmi twin dp usb hub for £400 wow i paid over double that for my Alienware aw3418dw.

Thanks for the reply. Have you ever used the 43" for desktop gaming. Just trying to get a feel for whether it's gonna be a worthwhile leap.
I'm happy you think it's a good spec. I don't the HDR is true HDR as it's only about 400 Nita but everything else looks really good.

Yes i have one for Gaming and it sits nicely above my 34" ultrawide but i don't generally use the 43" for std desktop use as i find it too big so i just use the ultrawide for that.

I kind off have the best of both world in a way.

I see, that's a nice setup. I must say the 21:9 screen looks so much more comfortable for desktop usage. I may have to jump in here.
I typically play FPS games and some RPGs on this screen, so like Destiny 2, Outer Wilds, Metro Exodus, Resident Evil 7. I may play some raving games on occasion too, Forza 7, F1 2019 but O also have a larger 4K TV in the room that I'm likely to use for racing games.

I guess part of it is I'm tossing up whether to keep the same aspect ratio and resolution across both screens or to get a 21:9 setup for a real PC type experience.

Love my AW3418DW, I’d never go back to 16:9. All recent games from AAA studios support it. Some cutscenes are only 16:9 but in game they’re fine.

Yes the ultrawide is more comfortable for desktop usage and also don't forget your GPU should be able to handle it a little easier than at 4K resolution and you will gain some fps back.

Those games all support ultrawide it's just the cutscenes like Misschief said than can be in 16:9.

Thanks for this. The monitor seems to be out of stock at most places for the moment so I'll give it a think.
EDIT: Just noticed the master thread with lots of people having issues. Maybe not then....

Yeah buying a monitor is not easy process and no monitor is 100% perfect and maybe those issues have been ironed out in the next batch that come in from OCUK.
Agreed, wait and see game I guess to see how good these may become. I just hope they don't push the price up.

This image of a 34" monitor really helped thanks.

With a 3 year warranty on these I've decided to take a punt and order one. Hopefully I get a good one.
Unfortunately it was from OCUK as there wasn't any stock left.

Finger crossed for you and update the thread when you have tested it out.:)

So the monitor came today. I will test it out later but some things I've noticed so far.
1. HDR is terrible, it just makes everything look washed out. Destiny 2 set HDR on by default and was causing issues.
2. I got that weird half screen glitch coming out of games but that also be resolved when I turned HDR off in game.
3. Very happy that G-Sync appears to be working.
4. Being an IPS screen/matte finish I didn't like the PQ at first but actually it looks really good. Turn advanced contrast on.
