IIyama Prolite E2473HDS on/off button

I've just purchased a IIyama Prolite E2473HDS monitor but the on/off button seems to be very temperamental. I assume it is a touch on/off, sometimes when I touch it it works straight away other times it doesn't respond and it takes several attempts to either switch the monitor on or off. Does anyone else have this issue? is it a quirk of the monitor or is it faulty? or is my finger faulty?
 
Your finger is most certainly faulty and must be removed immediately! :mad:

No not really. :p. It is just a 'quirk' of most touch sensitive buttons and this is why they are generally regarded as an infuriating addition to many monitor models. The best implementations of the technology are proximity based or involve a distinct touch sensitive area that isn't covered in glossy plastic - the implementation on the Dell U2410, for example. In short I wouldn't worry about the temperamental nature of the button as there is likely nothing wrong with the monitor itself or indeed your finger.
 
It's good news that my finger is not faulty :D

I've just tried it again and it must have taken about 30 attempts to switch it back on. If the blue light is on and I switch the main power switch at the back of the monitor it seems to remember the last state so hopefully I won't have to use the touch switch on the front too often
 
Was it always that difficult? Sometimes the touch sensitive area (or the glossy plastic covering it) can get a bit greasy which makes it even less responsive. I would try wiping it with a soft cloth a few times and seeing if that helps. You might want to switch the monitor off at the wall or main power switch (if it has one) when cleaning just to stop it going crazy.

The monitor is new, I've only had it for a couple of hours.

I have found a setting that locks the front power button, so I've have locked it so that it is in its 'on' state, so I probably won't use it again now. The monitor will normally be left in standby and if I do need to switch it off I'll use the main power switch at the back of the monitor. I am very impressed by the picture quality, it's far better than what I expected.
 
Ok, I've found that the best way of switching this monitor on is to wear rubber gloves and sneak up on it - works every time. :rolleyes:
 
OcUK advertise this monitor with a 3 year onsite warranty. I've just checked Iiyama's web site and the standard warranty is 2 years and you can register for a free additional year but I am unable to register because the site is under construction????? Also, the warranty appears to be a swap out warranty not an onsite. I'm confused :confused:
