Ikea beds

Matresses are odd size. 140cm for a double which is slightly under the standard.

I have this exact bed and it's a bit too low really. Not much storage space underneath (height) and makes it a little more effort to haul yourself out in the mornings.

Otherwise it's pretty good though. With ikea beds the slats and central beam are sold seperately and total around £20 so make sure you add that on.

Malm....

1. The bed frame itself is pretty solid - big beams, slats stay in place.
2. The bed is pretty low down compared to normal beds.
3. The bed frame isn't well designed because its impossible not to bash your shins against the side beams which surround the mattress. That becomes annoying as well as occasionally painful.
4. Bed is narrower than normal double beds.
5. Having had one of these for a while, I'll be buying a 'normal' bed in future.

When I was buying beds I looked in Ikea, but found that they were all too low to the floor.

Went to Dreams in the end and got myself an awesome orthopaedic double mattress and a good solid pine bed.

Check it out.

Didn't someone in another post say the mattresses are an odd size for sheets etc, worth checking,

That mattress is 200cm long, a standard single mattress is 190cm long so you'll be stuck trying to get bed lined for it. I ended up getting a couple of the frames but sourced standard mattresses and sheets elsewhere. There is a bit of a gap at the bottom of the frame due to the shorter mattress but the duvet covers that OK.

Love my malm bed and the matching side cabinets for it look good as well. I've always liked ikea matresses but I would recommend to get a mattress pad as well if you can. This means you can get a few big bottom sheets from ikea and just buy normal flat sheets which fit a mattress pad easily.

I am on the verge of rounding the corners off on my bed though because I have lost so much skin on the pointy pointy corners of it.

Thanks for the comments -

I take it its ok to put a standard duvet etc on the top of these, and the only thing size wise that will be a problem is the mattress sheet itself?

I have a double Malm in beech effect. I also cant fault it; looks nice and modern, decent height and solidly built. The mattress does sit 'in' the bed frame rather than on it so you do have to watch your shins when walking around it. I haven't had a problem so far though.
