IKEA discontinuing stuff

Is it just me, or is it whenever I want something from IKEA, they go and bloody discontinue it? Tried to order a beech galant desk not long ago - was in stock when I put the IKEA direct order in - got a phone call later saying "Oh, we don't have one of the pieces anymore as it's being discontinued". Had to go with the beech instead, as IKEA's replacement for the beech? A horrible grey veneer top :mad:

Cue to yesterday, when I decided I should get a desk pad. The *only* one I'm aware of that fits the corner galant desk is the KNOS pad. There was one still left in stock in IKEA Edinburgh, so I try to get a direct order in. Got told there's none left and guess what? Being discontinued. Don't see any viable replacements for it either :mad:

Guess I just needed to rant about my crappy luck. :p If anyone still has a KNOS pad in their local Ikea, I'd happily reimburse the cost of it plus shipping if you wanted to get me it before they go and all run out everywhere. :D

Failing that, anyone know of any desk pads that actually fit the galant's corners?
 
Had the same story with their old leather chair for about £30, just when I wanted one, discontinued.

But the replacement chair is excellent, so I cant complain :)

Looks ugly on a corner desk, which is why I wanted the KNOS pad:

Not just Ikea - I ruined my favourite olive green Oakley 'Fine Knit 3.0' beanie when it got put in the tumble drier by mistake. Oakley still do the hat but not in that colour. The colour was discontinued in favour of colours like bright orange and turquoise. :/ I even emailed Oakley directly asking if anywhere might still have one in olive green, or if there were plans to reissue that colour. The very helpful reply pointed out that that colour is discontinued (I told them that!) and that there were no plans to bring it back.

Bloody loved that hat. :(

I got that exact Galant Desk in beech sitting in my shed as I not longer need it.
 
Firstly, then generally discontinue products for a genuine reason, such as quality control, so really its in your interest. Secondly, my misses who works with Ikea tells me they have tremendous problems with theft and the such like, so their inventory system might be showing something as in stock, but when they actually check it there are non left. Its not incompetence, people literally walk out with stuff without paying for it and it screws the inventory system up.

But the desk pad has been up there for a long time... they've been discontinuing items recently for a change of inventory, like when they told me they were discontinuing the beech to replace it with something else (which turned out to be the horrible grey).

The *only* reason I can think of that they'd discontinue this is because it wasn't popular enough - because it had metal in it, interfering with wireless keyboards and the like. Since mine wasn't wireless, It didn't matter.

This is merely speculation, but I still want one. Unless they can replace it with another corner desk pad, I still want this one. :(
