I've been playing Rise of Flight and it is fun but kind of limited... I see that there is il-2 1946 on Steam for £7 which seems to be the opposite of limited as it has 200+ planes and every ever expansion ever made ever included. But is the game behind the amount of content still actually good as it is from 2001?

Alternatively... Cliffs of Dover? Wings of Prey?

Cheers!

Looks a bit dated now but theres plenty of mods for it which improve it, its a big old game and if you can get over the graphics then you'll still have fun.

Cliffs of Dover is OK, not the same scale as 1946 but graphically better. Less aircraft to fly and obvs only really the channel map as far as i'm aware.

Wings of Prey is a bit arcade if you know what I mean. The new IL2: BOS is really nice as well. As above IL2: Cliffs Of Dover (with mod) is really nice. Some good BoB fun to be had there.
