Illustrator experts please

I am trying to achieve the following effect –

Envelope distort isn't allowing me to have the fold lines. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My initial idea was to draw the grid, expand it, and then cut through it with some divide lines and warp those with free distort, but it doesn't maintain the joined lines where the fold is visible on both sides.

Failing that I'd go back to my process and maybe finish off with using the 3d rotate tools and just match the lines by hand.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't managed to do what I want as of yet but that plugin is very cool.

Do you need it to be a vector? You could easily achieve that effect in PS.

Yep vector unfortunately. Needs to be made into a die for embossing.
