Can anyone recommend a decent PSP rpg?
Im not after games like the final fantasy series or anything with cute cats/bunnies. Not after pokemon type games or anything like the japaneese stuff thats out there.

Im after something like Baldurs Gate, or nwn or maybe even Diablo.

Ive seen Dungeon Siege and the Dungeons and Dragons game Silverfall, but is there anything else that stands above the rest?

It doesnt matter how old the game is, as long as its still out there to buy.

Any help will be great

Valkyria Chronicles 2 is getting some really good reviews - it's new though, so it'll be priced accordingly. The new Kingdom Hearts is also getting good reviews, although it's Disney ties may overload your cuteness filter...

My brother-in-law raves about Half Minute Hero - he says it perfectly designed for short bursts or long sessions, and can be found for just under a tenner.

+1

I found the D&D games on PSP to be abysmal... long loading, bad display (views etc), too long winded spec/equipment wise, and not great stories. Avoid!

If you can break away from the "no Japanese stuff" thing then Persona 3: Portable is the best RPG on PSP but you need to buy it from the US PlayStation store, just make a US account and buy 2 $20 PSN cards for £11 each from www.psnlivecodes.us then redeem them to your account and buy!

Apart from the fact that it seems that nobody decided to check all the bugs as they've left in two that I'm aware of (one is a really big audio clanger in the female MC side).

Strange because no reviews have mentioned anything about bugs nor have I heard of any from friends that have finished the game.

Guess it doesn't detract from the experience. Or is very rare, I'm a few hours in as FeMC with no issues yet.

Edit: Also most games have the odd bug crop up at some point, so I don't see why this should be singled out

didnt kingdom hearts just come out of psp?

i know its a japanese / final fantasy esque rpg but if its like the ps2 versions its more of an action rpg with a realtime battle system.

ive not played it but i did enjoy the first 2 (but im also a FF fan)

Dungeon and Dragons Tactics was pretty good, based on D&D 3.5 so not dissimilar mechanics to Baldur's Gate.

Neverwinter Nights or an Elder Scrolls game would be amazing though on the PSP. Can keep wishing I suppose. :o

monster hunter games?

Awful, awful games. The worst part about it is that the potential is amazing, but they keep making the same mistakes over and over again. The quest system smacks of filler, the movement & camera controls are far and away the hardest aspect of the game to master and how hard could it possibly be to include a rudimentary targeting system?

I'd suggest trying FF7: Crisis Core. I know you specifically excluded both FF and Japanese titles, but it's certainly very different to the full console RPGs and it's worth a punt. Rent it for a weekend, maybe.

final fantasy tactics : war of the lions is amazing. love the storyline and great gameplay too. loads of things to do in it regarding classes and abilities etc.

I wish there were more decent action RPGs I know Monster Hunter is boring has hell. I'm just fed up of so many RPG's on the PSP being ruined by having crapy turn-based combat implemented into them. One of the few Japanese RPGs I enjoyed was Sword Of Mana which was on the GBA but that had action combat which in turn actually made a JRPG fun for once.
