I bought that Hacienda Classics album today in the vain hope that it might solve my quest, needless to say it didn't.
I couldn't name any of the songs I'm after, as I didn't really pay that much attention to the specifics, just enjoyed them at clubs. The era I'm after is @'94-'99, the sort of clubs I went to were the Gardening Club, Club UK etc. & a few of the DJs I remember were Jeremy Healy, Jon Pleased Wimmin & Lisa Lashes (Loud?).
If anyone knows the sort of tunes I'm after & can point me in the direction of a decent compilation I'd be most grateful:)

Amazon have a good thing where you can listen to snatches of the songs on the albums, but they only have it on some of them. Might be worth a look though.

Have you listened to Hard House Classics? Its an MoS compilation. There's some absolute garbage on there (like the logical song, etc) but there's some corking tunes too (Synth & Strings, Time to Burn, Sandstorm, etc).

The Amazon thing is a good idea:)
I haven't listened to any MoS comps. MissesG has one that has a Craig David track on it so that sort of put me off;)
Just looking at the track listing on the Hard House Classics & 'Praga Khan - Injected With A Poison' & 'Knuckleheadz - Raise Your Hands' are definitely the era & genre I'm after, no idea about the rest of them though:)

I'm no Hard House expert but i can give this advice. Avoid anything with time to burn, synth & strings and sandstorm on the tracklisting and definately avoid anything by MoS. I can almost guarentee you'll be getting crappy cheese and not hard house.

Check out the extreme euphoria series (mostly mixed by lisa lashes), the latest tidy euphoria is pretty good too. Yoji Biomehanika (i think that's spelt right) seems to be the daddy of HH at the mo and he's got a newish production album out i think. DJ Scot Project is another favourite of mine. So check out those names along with glazby, andy farley and i've always liked productions by guyver.

Like i said i'm no HH expert but that and ChroniCs recommendation (even if it has got the same track 3 times :p) is something to get you started.

1. Picking out three tunes I've said I like from the era is trolling, pure and simple.
2. MoS used to be the daddy, as I said.
3. Its quite obvious you're no expert :)
4. Its also quite obvious you didn't read the thread. How long have Yoji, Scott project etc. been mainstream? Since '94? Certainly not under those names.

I'd also be quite surprised to find '94-'99 mixes of tracks on recent releases.

1) Trolling afaik is joining a thread purely for the sake of arguing or provoking a reaction. I joined the thread because i felt i could offer advice it's just unfortunate I happened to disagree with everything you said.
2) I didn't say it wasn't. You implied that MoS is still worth checking out and it's my opinion that it certainly isn't
3) Fair enough
4) Again Fair enough

Looked to me like you were after a reaction, you might've disagreed with what I said, it was the way you said it that prompted me to accuse you of trolling.

Note, anything I've said about MoS compilations were strictly regarding releases between 94 and 99.

Although i dont want to join in this fight, i have to agree, sandstorm, and time to burn are pants songs. 1999-2001 was a bad time for any dance music as it became more mainstream and i hate this word "commercialised".
Its seems to have recovered somewhat lately though.
Seriously though, il have a search through some of my old compliation for you.

I just came on the computer on the back of a nice family arguement hense the way i might have phrased it.

On top of the world now though, been offered a trip to ibiza!! :D

I'd have thought that would fit the bill, too. With regards more modern tracks, one mans HH is another's NRG, is another's hard trance. I went through a HH phase in 2000-2003, but I really think it was just a fad. There are only a handful of landmark tunes, and I'm being exceptionally generous refering to them that way. It said something when one year, the Dj Mag top 100 was laden with HH spinners, Lisa Lashes, BK etc. Even by next year the proportion had dropped significantly. I couldn't tell you what state HH is in today. I just remember that there were some dire tracks and record labels only a few years ago- Shock Records and the infamous 'oink' basslines for instance. Before that, there were hoovers. Christ, it was like an ex-ravers mid-life crisis.
