i'm asking a really stupid question

but........ is the RAM on a card, the same as the RAM on the mobo...i.e if i have say 2GB RAM on a card, can i get away with only 4GB on a mobo......the reason i ask, is i think that i can only get 4GB on my next AMD mobo..... or maybe 3 sticks of 2gb

is 4GB RAM on a mobo, enough for a top end rig ???????
