My last activity here being - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=27815&highlight=halz

This has really sent me down memory lane, just looked in the archive, saw the banana's and it all starts coming back to me, Slackworth (think you had slightly different name then), mdplatts, feek, MOS, the electric bills.......great days.

Competition was bleeding fierce with seti classic, my highest position in the team as it was then - 176th , although by the time it ended I had dropped a bit due to inactivity.

But no more I say, you will notice I am already kicking butt, yes the going is easy at the moment due to a lot of inactives but dont let that fool you - I have a throttle ..........and I intend to use it :D

Now all this Boinc stuff is new to me so please be patient by my lack of knowledge on the subject (questions will follow in my next post).

If you joined the forum after 2002 then of course I dont know you so if you could introduce yourself then I might not feel so bad when I stomp your ass.;)

Excuse the very out of date sig, pointers for the current ones would be appreciated. (updated - cheers br83taylor)

halz :)

The electric bills got bigger. This place got crazier (go hunt out the SETI animal farm threads in the Archive - I won't link - I'd get shot), and then quieter. We got invaded by pirates and then repelled that scurvy lot, and here we still are.

Yes, you got stomped by me. Twice. No hard feelings. :)

Slackworth = adwhitworth. He was a SETI slacker. We gave him a nickname. It stuck. :)

Welcome back slacker, I remember you. Those were the days eh when a wu was a wu. Look at that old news post. A dump of 105 made the top 10. Its all a load of cobbles now.:D

Pirates :confused::mad::eek:

Hard feelings - no way, the fact that you did it twice suggests I put up a fight, thats good enough for me :)

Thanks mate, chuffed that I was not forgotten, makes it all worthwhile.
I am definately with you on the 'wu was a wu' - bleeding cobblestones, who's bright idea was that - defo needs a more masculine name like ?

Energetic Mega Units?

Could nickname them Emus! :p

Like your thinking, I would have gone for something with maybe X's and/or Z's in it but I cant think of a snappy name.
You need to be able to stand up in the pub and say 'I crunch ****' , not sure of the response I would get using Emus ;)

On a serious note what projects contribute to our teams score - I have an ATI 5870 doing nothing, I did try the Milkyway thingy, I got it going but the card seemed to be running flat out which worried me slightly so I binned it till I know more.

What, you told your GPU to analyse data and it tried to do it as fast as possible? Oh noes!

:p

Ahaha! Made me laugh! :D

Over on F@H we have nervous breakdowns if our GPU projects aren't running our GPUs at 100%. We see it as a sign of failure if your GPU survives more than a year! :p

No, what I meant was it seemed to be running really fast, like out of control and due to the cards cost it worries me leaving it unattended for days at a time. When gaming at full HD resolution with everything turned on in 'Crysis', it doesnt run anything like as fast, it just didnt feel right.
If some people will tell me thats normal and it wont set my house on fire I may get it crunching again.

Hehe just check the temperatures and compare to other people on the internetz. If they're fine, the card'll almost certainly be fine. And you've probably got a warranty to fall back on?

Welcome back Halz......

Do I have to watch my back?

I do plan to add more cores in the coming weeks but to overtake you Sir would, on my part, be a bit of a tall order, so sadly the answer is no :(
The only target I have set myself is to make it into the top 75 inside of 6 months.
Progression from there will be slow and hard won.

I should point out that I am only taking part in seti@home, I have no plans to take part in any other projects at this point in time.
