may be selling on my 8800gts 640, so an upgrade is in the works.

Dont want to go higher than 200 spadooley, I instantly looked at the 4870. Can get a 1gb for under 200.

Did i just answer my own question? What else is there to look at?

Im on a 24inch screen, and I'm a game designer so well, I play games a lot :D

pros and cons of the 4870? Are the fans loud and would it be worth getting the 512mb powercolor silent cooling one?

i would reccomend the 4870 at that price bracket

there are questionable gains in the 1gb model - that would have to be your call
they are quite hot and run loud.

my firend recently got one and fitted an aftermarket cooler straight away
temps dropped and it certainly quietened it down and improved overclcoking

my advice is to maybe consider the cheapest model you can find and stick an aftermarket cooler on

if you are concerned about warranty then you may want to try the gainward golden sample edition as that comes with a non reference cooling solution. a few reviews i have read say it is the best example - and not too much of a price increase over the stock model

All top end cards are hot and sort of noisey at the mo. Get a 4870, they are amazing considering the price and the way the cooler is set up its still fairly quiet (it comes on occassionally if it gets really hot but a decent case should help airflow)

that may be your best bet

powercolours warranty details are included in my warranty guide
see link in my sig
its under the ati board partners
