I'm considering a 22" widescreen...

But at the moment the prices seem a little disproportional. For example, you can pick up a 19" for as little as £110~ now, and even for a very good one you're only looking at spending £140~, but as soon as you get into screens just a few inches bigger you're looking at £270~ or more.

I've just tried a dual screen setup (apologies for the poor picture quality, my phone sucks) which I didn't get on too well with, but in the same respect it's not going to be the end of the world if I have to stick with my very good 19" CRT and awful 17" CRT for some time if the prices of 22" widescreens are likely to come down any time soon.

Basically; I don't mind paying £270~ for a monitor, but I'm not in a huge rush to upgrade at present so I'm more than happy to wait if a price cut is overdue! :)

Cheers

You can get the V7 L22WD which has DVI and VGA for a lot less than 270...and its really good. Have a look at my thread a couple of posts down.

You can get the Fujitsu Siemens L22-1W and Belinea 2225 S1W for around £225, hardly excessive

Ah, it seems they're a little cheaper than I expected! What are Video Seven like though? I've heard some good things but I'm not sure if I'd prefer a brand I'm a little more familiar with!

Here's another question; my PC specs aren't really all too good. We're talking AMD Barton 2500+, 1GB DDR400 and Asus V9999 6800 here, is it even worth me considering a large widescreen setup? Or should I stick with my current (meh) setup of dual screens until I get a new PC?

Thanks for the replies! :-) Much appreciated.

V7 is very good (and no I'm not saying that as I work for Ingram) The panel is very good, with no dead pixels etc and comes with DVI and VGA. It comes with a 2 or 3 year onsite warranty (can't remember which) and the build quality I'd rate higher than the 19" Viewsonic its replaced. All in all for the money its great and there are also only so many manufacturers of the panels.

Seems like a very good monitor actually, thanks!

Think I've decided it may be best to wait a little longer though and upgrade my PC first; my specs aren't too good atm :(

I just received the Belina 22" a few days ago and I am nothing but impressed with it. For the money the Belina has massive bang for buck. I have one dead pixel that is on the edge of the right side so it's not noticable unless you look for it. Viewing angles are good on the horizontal, if a little limited on the vertical, and the design in the flesh is not all that bad... IMO.

I am running a similar system to yourself and have no problems at all.
1700 @ 2.4ghz + X800XTPE AGP + 1 gig ram

Half life 2, CS:S already support widescreen and Battlefield 2 needed a small tweak to run. Playing at 1650 x 1050 with the details on medium currently. If you can wait then prices will eventually fall as new panels come out - but for me, 3 yrs on a Dell 17" CRT meant my dues had been paid :D I decided to buy now and when I update the rest of my rig in 6 months time I will play with the eye candy turned on.

Huge thanks again for the replies guys; I think I've (finally) made up my mind and may go for the V7, unless someone can convince me otherwise!

Yeah, I do really want to, I'm just too indecisive! :D

I've honestly no idea what to do. There's a nice Iiyama one that seems to be discontinued and the V7 one is cheap as chips and seems but is a little ugly and has speakers x_x

Plus, I don't want to throw my current CRT in the bin, I know people hate CRTs, but I wub it. :-)

Well the speakers on any monitor will be rubbish as its a monitor not a speaker system. I have the Belinea and it does everything i need, excellent for gaming and quite good for movies on a tn film panel. :)

You don't have to connect the speakers and i have never used them, monitors tend to look better in the flesh than in photos don't know why they just do.

Hmm yup, I know I wouldn't have to connect them but I just don't know if I'd prefer something a little more sleek and without speakers :)

I know TFTs have a lot of issues; dead pixels, poor colours, refresh rates etc - but they are on the whole better than CRTs for image quality right?

I've got the Belinea and the speakers aren't really noticeable, just kinda like a grill at the bottom of the screen. Haven't even unwrapped the cables as I always use headphones.

As for your question, the answer is no. A world class CRT will beat any TFT for image quality; obviously a high quality TFT will match up ok against a poor/average CRT.

Personally if I had a very good 19" CRT as you claim to, I wouldn't be looking to change it. The only reason I got a 22" TFT is because my 19" CRT packed up after 5.5 years and I wanted something a little bigger than my 17" backup CRT.

I read somewhere that the text isn't as clear as it should be. Can you verify this as i'm almost ready to "push the button" (seen this one for £211 )

Which one do you mean? On the V7 L22WD the text (once its setup right like on most monitors) is fine. I run mine thru DVI from my PC and VGA from my 360 and both look superb.

Hi

Does the V7 screen come with a height adjustable stand ?

As currently in the market for a new monitor but really want one with height adjustment.

Thanks

it's got til but dont think it's height adjustable . There maybe 2 height settings though , not sure how stable this would b though.
