I'm considering VR

I'm considering getting into VR, however I'm unsure if it's too early in terms of adopting the tech. I'll admit, I know very little about it, but it seems to be enduring well.

My system spec is:

  • 6700k or 5930k - I already own both, so can choose which suits VR best (maybe there's no difference?).
  • 1080ti
  • W10
  • 950 Pro M2

I game in a small office (at home) and I have no interest in gaming standing up, so I would be looking for a system and associated games that involve sitting down.

Budget is £1k

What would you guys recommend? I'm happy to do my own research, just looking to be pointed in the right direction to get the ball rolling.

Yes. The bundle comes with everything you need including some free games to get you started. That deal ends on the 4th with the price going up by £100.

What type of games do you enjoy?

I enjoy FPS like FC5, Metro etc and also stuff like TW3, Shadow of Mordor, Tomb Raider.

Waiting to see what these new headsets coming out in October are like. The lack of cameras/lighthouses is a reall appeal, along with the price obviously.

This is my concern. I've been buying higher end tech long enough to know that a 20% (£100) price drop funded by the manufacturer can only mean one of two things;

  1. The product is gash.
  2. The product will be superseded soon.
Given the feedback here so far, I think option 1 can be ruled out. So now it's a question of should I wait, and if I do will it be worth it with regards to price and product improvement.

Anyone any thoughts on that?

Then again, laura's more valuable assets have never looked so great, so you may consider it worth the hit

Oh, I consider Lara worth the hit. :)

I'm comfortable with the £399 price, I'm more concerned about the chances of the kit I do buy getting superseded within 6 months? Is that likely to happen?

Does anyone know the terms of the promotion i.e. is last chance to purchase at that price going to be tomorrow night, or will it be Monday midday like This Week Only deals expire on Wednesday midday?

I know people are saying go for it, but I wouldn't have started the thread if I wasn't already on the fence. I do appreciate the comments here, and it is helpful. I just hate time limited decisions!

String, what reservations are holding you back, aside from it being a bit of a rush?

I think I'm just concerned that it'll lie on the desk and gather dust. I also fly out on holiday next weekend so the timing is a bit iffy... I may not get the chance to test properly until it's too late for a refund when the 14 days will have elapsed.

I've pulled the trigger, mainly because the feedback is so positive. I'll come back at the end of the week and share my thoughts.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to respond.

I've installed Robo Recall.

Oh My God, I can see what the fuss is about. It's something else. The next gen of this is going to be utterly incredible, as I'm sure the headset will probably end up being like a set of wrap around sunglasses and the resolution will be improved, too.

There's no way I'm returning this, even the wife is impressed and she hates everything gaming related. :p

@melmac cheers.

What games would you recommend for sitting down? Also, can I buy these games from Steam?

Edit: Also, what is the official download for the tray tool?
