Heya all...just got a bit of cash in bank and i wouldnt mind upgrading my PC for when Farcry2 arrives.

Current Spec.

Core2 duo. e6600 default speeds.
x1900 512meg.
2gig giel ram. forgotten speeds :P
and asus p5b delux mobo...

Iv got about £250bar to blow...I was thiking either new ram and gfx...or new gfx and cpu....cause iv heard quad core cpu's boost performance allot in Farcry2.

Thanks.

I think that a new graphics card is the most important change you could make. So how about graphics card and ram and maybe a new cpu cooler and clock your current cpu.

I am about to upgrade my gpu and cpu for farcry2, where did you hear farcry2 favours quad core ? got a link ?

if it will make a big difference this info could swing my decision.

Heya m8t...i cant remember exaclty..i think it was some were on www.n4g.com

What i read was that quad core gives a 40% boost in performance...tho i dont know if thats a boost from a single core processor..or a dual core one. But i presume it would be over a dual core as who has single core processors now when playing games :P

You need to upgrade that X1900 before getting a new cpu. That would make a huge difference, especially on a 24" monitor. Clocking you E6600 to 3-3.4Ghz would see a sizeable boost too. You will need a half decent cooler though. The Akasa AK 965 is cheap and quite good. Shame on you for running at stock speed. :p

hmmm this is putting me off buying a new processor untill i know more !

what to do, what to do !??

im pretty sure my 8800gts is equivelent if not better than the 4670 !??

wanna see farcry2 in its full glory haha.

about the cpu, seems its either a q6600 or an e8400, or keep my current e6300 (its already overclocked a fair amount !)

confused !

With £250, buy a 4870 1Gb (the powercolor one on OCUK is a good price), get 2Gb more of the same ram, overclock your processor (should reach at least 3ghz).

Should be fine then (though I don't know about max settings for Far Cry 2 with that on a 24", we'll have to wait and see).

I have my E6600 clocked at 3.4, and its spot on. Better to make do with the hardware you have. Get A better than stock cooler and new graphics.

I agree a new graphics card should be top of your list.

With £250 id be inclined to get 4870 GFX card and 4Gb of this RAM :

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

You could then sell your current RAM / GFX card to recoup some of the cost.

I dont think anyone else has asked, but what PSU do you have?

I keep itching to upgrade myself but i just dont think the cost of a GTX260 and maybe a quad will see much of a gain over my current 8800GTX and CPU

He is very wrong. A 4670 is in no way better than a 8800 series card. I think he's on a different planet. :D

I would keep your cpu and clock it further and depending on res, possibly get a 4870. If you have a less than 22" monitor though i would stick with your GTS.
