I'm feeding to an av receiver, will a sc make any difference?

My current set up passes audio from an optical out on my mobo to an av receiver.

Can anyone tell me if adding a sc would make any difference, or would it just be a more expensive card passing the signal over to the av reciever?

Yes and no is the answer to your question.

Yes in that a better card will probably have a more stable clock, but you're unlikely to notice any benefit until you're spending a few thousand pounds and if the reciever doesn't lock to external clock input the benefit is lost anyway.

So the short answer is no, you won't see any difference.
