Yip tonight i finally got my first VR headset set up , i bought a 2nd hand rift to see what VR is like in racing sims and to tide me over until the Pimax 5k gets released.
well my current gpu is well well over due an upgrade as it is an AMD 7900 series card.
I was planning on getting a 2080ti for when i get the Pimax , but after trying the rift tonight it was a lot better than i expected as i had my expectations quite low as its very old and my gpu is like 50 years old:D
but yet the result was ok graphically wise and GREAT immersion wise so i now find myself questioning myself on do i really need to spend all that money on a 2080ti and the Pimax headset , so about 2k for both.
Where as i am wondering if i got a 1080ti to power the rift when playing Sim racing games , would i be able to wind the graphics settings in game way way up , over ultra ultra ultra settings :D ( if you know what i mean ) would this make the picture better by a fair bit ?
I am also toying with the idea of changing from the thought of getting the pimax and MAYBE just a MAYBE importing the Samsung Odyssey as its the same screen res as the Vive Pro as far as i remember.

Well a few hrs of VR certainly did go to my head, I just happened to purchase a Samsung odyssey as well , I will get myself a 1080ti and then resell what ever one of the headsets I least prefer.
Bearing in mind I'm only interested in simulator racing, as apposed to the likes of VR tennis :)

Did you get the Touch controllers too with your 2nd hand Rift?
I understand the appeal of buying a VR headset just for sim games I really do, but VR takes off and goes to another level when you play room scale games with your Touch controllers.

Don’t bother with 1080ti, as melmac said, beyond the 1070 difference isn’t really noticeable on VR right now, given the prices I would say the 1070ti/1080/Vega64 are the best options
Ok thanks ill bear that in mind. but i might still lean towards the 1080ti as i might get a better monitor than my current 1080p one
And yip i did get the touch controllers with it , they are awesome

I bought my Rift for sim racing and 18 months on its still all I play, totally hooked. Admittedly that is because my mancave is only 2m square and my racing seat sits in the middle. To do room scale properly I have to move everything into the living room, which is not popular with SWMBO lol. When I get the Pimax the rift will go upstairs into the games room and all that will change.

I bought a 1080ti from a 980ti after backing the Pimax which will need all the pixels I can throw at it and then some. Have to say once you are past 1.5ss in the Rift the improvement is minimal, and my 980ti could cope at that level. I’m in the process of buying a 1070ti in the mm so the rift can move.
Thanks

Have you pre-ordered the Pimax?
I just wish they had a package available which was more complete than a stand-alone headset.I've just saw a video on the 5+ through the lens on youtube and the blacks looked... blue.

I'm also still interested in the Pimax, I just couldn't wait any longer to dip into PC VR-gaming and Occulus has way too many exclusives to ignore.
Nope i only just got back into pc gaming last month and that was the first time i read about the Pimax

@aoaaron I backed the kickstarter, so I'm just waiting for it now (backer no. 2xxx odd), I have to choose between the 5k+ and the 8K before they ship it, which is proving difficult based on the fact they are so close in performance.
5k+ all the way :)
