Well, it's not that i am not happy with Bulldog, the fact is i am(apart from the billing). Speeds a excellent and so are pings but as i got Sky TV i can get 16Mb for £10 a month instead of 8Mb for £20 a month which is much better looking at it purely on a financial basis.

Another reason i am changing is because i won't be around as much to hammer the connection next year so switching would be much more logical now seeing as my Bulldog contract expires soon.

I hope Sky is good, reading around on ADSLguide it doesn't seem bad, better than other ISP's i know of so fingers crossed. Their customer support can't be that bad either coming from Bulldog(which wasn't actually THAT bad).

Only downside is i won't get to use my own router as they supply that Sky branded Netgear but it's a decent router so i don't think i will mind that much.

To all the people that have Sky MAX(LLU product), how long did it take to get activated from the sign up date and did you have any issues at all?

How are the tech support team over the phone? I hear Tier 1 are pretty useless but it would be nice to know they have a clue as to what their talking about.

I am also slightly worried about the fact that they use Interleaved transfer and not fast path as the latter gives you better pings. Can you get this changed by them? Be allow you to get it changed so i hope Sky do..

Any finally, Any Sky Max customers on here? How would you rate the service so far out of 10 in terms of:

a) The stability of the connection(i know this varies on different lines)
b) The speeds at peak times
c) Torrent speeds
d) Sync speeds and the actual download speed you get?
e) The pings you get when gaming

Thanks for your time and patience :)

Im getting it as soon as my Veiwing card goes live, (flat installation of the TV so they wont accept me on the website)

Was ment to go live on saturday but the engineer didnt turn up cause "something came up" he says he'll probally turn up tomz.

I dont think you can use anything but the sky router without breaking the rules and hacking up the firmware on the router.

Check out Link answers allot of questions.

After 6 years with BT openworld/yahoo I have finally had enough of them, them charging me £130 for my domestic broadband by mistake was the final straw, that and a nice phone call saying commit for another year or where putting your prices up another £12 a month.

Been brilliant for me. Moved from Eclipse in August which had rapidly turned diabolical. There was a two day delay in migration although I never had any downtime.

a)Connection has been stable since being connected I have had no drop outs.
b)Speed is consistent at all times although I only get 4mb because of my distance from the exchange.
c)Torrents are fine they obviously vary but I have got some very fast downloads.
d)4mb same as I did with Eclipse max service.
e)Pings range between 20-40ms using Uk servers.

9 out of 10

my current opinion with sky is that if you manage to get through the order process ok then generally it's good, however if like me you get stuck somewhere they your in for a ride ;)

I was supposed to be activated on the 5th of Jan however i'm still waiting, but sky accounts claim the line migration has happened and everything is ok at their end. When in reality i'm still stuck on my old isp's BB. Trying to convince tech support that BT / openreach havn't done the migration at the exchange is a task in itself, with the usualy 5 day waiting period for any action to take place which so far hasn't.

still waiting for them to take it off my line now for over a month cancelled on the 3rd dec. pings are terrible today they are minimum 74ms

Pinging 212.149.82.227 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 212.149.82.227: bytes=32 time=74ms TTL=51
Reply from 212.149.82.227: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=51
Reply from 212.149.82.227: bytes=32 time=74ms TTL=51
Reply from 212.149.82.227: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=51

Ping statistics for 212.149.82.227:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 74ms, Maximum = 76ms, Average = 74ms

then they go up and over 100ms.

tech support are totally rubbish have not got a clue what they are on about.
and they will not remove interleaving.
Just thought id let you know..

With some caveats - Sky don't give you the username/password, and the Sky-supplied router has the fields hidden.

Oh, that sucks :(

With BT they give a free router so a lot of people assume that you need to use it, but you don't. I thought it might be the same with Sky broadband.

Hey people.

Thanks for the replies. Appreciated very much.

I was just wondering, i have a date to get connected to my BT phone line on the 26th January(return to donor from Bulldog). Is there any way i can organise Sky getting my broadband activated on the same day or will i have to wait till my line is a BT one on the 26th?

Ok got my Sky TV installed today, all good, phoned Sky to sort my BB out and got " sorry but your BT line isnt in the address you gave"...
Err yes it is and the bill says it is? ok i got it moved from my old house when i moved but that was over a year ago.... "you'll have to talk to BT and get it sorted before you can switch to us".

BT say its will take up to 10 working days for there database to be corrected (sounds like rubish to me) which leaves me about 5 days before my MAC code that took about an hour on the phone to get runs out.

Also now my net is getting cut off very 20-30 mins, loss of dial tone...

Frankly I smell a anticompetative rat here.....

I wasn't going ot move my phone calls to sky but now im taking everythign i can from BT the toerags.....

Hi been looking through this thread and hope someone can answer my question. Currently on BT upto 8meg but where I am I average around 1 - 1.5 meg

If I got Sky Max would I see and increase in speed or would they only be able to give me the same speed as BT?

Have checked their site and they say my exchange is sky ready?

Same speed as BT unless you can get SKY/Easynet LLU in your area. Then you may be able to get faster.

Gah, those fools at BT screwed up my order so now i am not getting connected to them until the 30th.
