I'll probably get slated for this as it's only September, but hey ho, advance planning and all.

What are your essentials for xmas along the lines of twiglets, matchmakers, ferrero rocher, that sort of stuff?

Not stuff that goes off, but the stuff above can be bought ages in advance as long as it stays sealed, and normally sit on the dining table all over xmas.

Now is a good time to start making stuff for xmas - xmas beer brews, some of the quicker to mature wines, cheeses, cured meat, etc.

Purchasing meat to freeze is probably okay but it's pushing it a bit to be honest.

Now is a good time to be making stuff (christmas pudding etc) if not a little early, but other than that if I bought anything now it would be gone by next week :p

Ah yes, I want to make some christmas pud vodka! We have a few friends over for Christmas this year, rather than us going all over, so we want to make it super.

Might have to make up some stuffing rolls (I had a beast of a recipe if I can find it) as they freeze well. The gravy also freezes well, and you can get out in slabs. Not sure what else I can make up this far ahead of time.

I was in the 'seasonal' aisle in Sainsbury's yesterday and it seemed everything was on an offer of some sort, so it's probably an ideal time to stock up on things that will keep if you want to save some money. As well as all the sweets and crisps they had biscuits for cheese, boxes of Christmas biscuits (like those Danish butter cookies you never see at any other time of the year), shortbread, and randomly, tins of soup

I'm about to go and make Christmas cake this morning. The fruit has been soaking in brandy for three days and the smell is reminding me how much I don't like Christmas cake :(

I'm a bloke, I do all my Christmas shopping a week before and it takes and hour, 2 hours maximum.

Not only that but the weights of it lowers my car significantly so I look dope and fly and ting.

Got a few bits made in advance but really I see no need to go to the level of ridiculous excess most people do.

your as bad as the supermarkets putting advent callanders for sale in september.

I quite like the mince pies in September though.

I am the same as the person above. Usually a week or two before Christmas will I actually get the gear I need.
