a few days ago i bought a leadtek 8800gtb to replace my old 7800gtx but for some reason it keeps crashing in oblivion, the game runs flawlessly with all the settings at max but it randomly freezes :(
most of the time the music continues and i can Alt & Tab out of the game but if i go back into it i lose controll of my character and then it freezes again and i have to reset the pc

a few times it has filled the screen with what looks like a corrupted texture when it froze and another time some of the textures seemed to go purple for a few secs

its seems to happen at random because sometimes its in a outdoor area and sometimes indoors, it can happen anywhere from 2mins to 40mins of playing

i tried the latest offical drivers, the beta drivers, the drivers from the leadtek site, a unpatched version of oblivion & oblivion wiht the latest patch but its still happening

i dont think its a problem with the card because Unreal Tournament 3 runs flawlessly with max settings

here is my system

AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-57 Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT 512MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
Thermaltake Purepower 560W Psu
120gig Maxtor SATA
300gig Maxtor SATA

well thanks for the tips guys, im right at the start of the game so i dont think its a problem with the save file, i tried a clean install of oblivion and it was still happening

im running windows xp home with all the latest updates & i used drivercleaner to uninstall th eold drivers before i installed the new ones

i havent overclocked anything in the system but i think i make have just found the cause of my problems :p

when i installed the new card i just used the power connector from my old 7800gtx & didnt touch the one in the box but i just noticed that my 7800 connector only connected to one of the power cables in the system but the 8800 connecter connects to two, i just put the new connector in and so far i havent had any crashes, i havent used it much tho to be honest but do you think this could have been the cause?

small update :P
i tried 3Dmark06 lastnight when i was using the old connector and it would take ages to load the next test, it also crashed on a black screen before it could complete but i just ran the program again and it loaded the tests perfectly & finished :)

i have a question tho, i only had one power cable with nothing on it & that was the one that my 7800gtx used, the other cable is shared with my dvd drive, will this be ok you think?
