I'm having seriously bad problems with my internet for last 5 days - Please help!

Hi there, please can you help me because this is really annoying me now. I've had nothing but problems since friday night.

I am on NTL which is now called virgin broadband and I have the internet coming in through the wall into the NTL modem, which then goes into a wireless belkin modem which then goes into my PC.

My mums laptop is downstaires in the living room so the wireless modem is for her benefit.

So from friday night for whatever reason, web pages stop working, I'll restart both modems and it still does the same thing.

its only web pages though, which is what I dont get?

I can still download, I can still use msn, I can still use team speak, its just web pages.

And one day I tried without the wireless modem and it didnt seem to do it, so I plugged the wireless modem back in and now it does it all the time, but I have to have the wireless modem on for my mum to use the internet on her wireless laptop downstaires.

So this really makes me think this is the wireless modem, but I'm not sure?

It does it on her laptop and my PC, so it cant just be my PC or my software etc.

She has xp, I'm on windows 7. Her laptop is old, and my PC is brand new.

the NTL modem is new aswell coz they sent me a new one. the Belkin wireless modem is prob 3 years old now where as the NTL modem is just a few months.

Can modems die?

The extent of my knowledge when it comes to solving these kind of problems is to turn off the modem and put it back in after 10 seconds, althought I did unplug it for 10 mins aswell today to see if that helped.

Sometimes the interet will work fine for 3 hours, sometimes it wont last 30 seconds before web pages stop loading? And like I said before its been like this for 5 days now, usually its perfect, and its only web pages, msn will still be connected and team speak and my downloads, coz I've been downloading aion chinese client with utorrent which is the beta and its free/legal.

So am really confused, I dont know how to solve this problem or what I can do to try and fix it myself so I thought I'd post here and ask you lot, I hope I've given you as much information as possible and have explained this well.

P.S. am sure years ago when I posted on here with same problem, people would give me these IP's and used to say to me "insert this into your internet explorer's options" and it would connect me to a different DNS or something, its hard to explain because I dont really know what the hell am talking about.

Oh and I better tell you that I use firefox and my mum uses internet explorer, but I've tried both on my PC and its same on both.

If it just web then the problem is almost certainly with VMs web proxy. Have a quick google to see if there are other people having proxy issues.
 
the belkin thing is a wireless router, not a modem by the way

if it's fine without the router, then login to the router, and find the factory reset option

this will reset it to defaults, maybe do a firmware upgrade if you can find one for it.




personally I don't like belkin routers, I use a WRT54GL router with 'Tomato' firmware on it, has been rock solid stable for 2 years
 
I used to have the same problems when I was NTLWorld dial up and the proxies would cache pages - not good when you are trying to develop websites!
 
Maybe a DNS prob.? If you know the IP address of a page try it (with the router plugged in). Odd it only happens with the router plugged in....

The modem/router combo I had from my last ISP had a button you had to hold in with a toothpick for 5 secs. So check for that also.
