Hey guys

Just thought I'd have my first post in this forum as I've just started folding

And I'm hooked lol

Just this second finished my first WU, started it last at about midnight, this morning I set my laptop and PS3 folding too

Laptops got a beast of a one to do, 20k frames, seems a lot considering the one I just finished was 2.5k lol

And needless to say, I joined the OcUK team, lets hope I add to your scores and get you up the table

P.S Just a quick question, I've just noticed the new WU my PC just received is exactly the same as the one my laptop is currently doing, is this normal?

Welcome to the worlds finest team. :)

Its normal to have the same WUs, can't remember why though, someone will explain. I have a feeling it isn't actually the same WU, just the same name or something.

Have you seen eoc stats? Very handy to see how you're doing.
Heres the teams page, heres the ocuk team page, and heres the ocuk users page.

Also theres the weekly team news to look forward to which looks like this. Thats posted every thursday.

Yup having the same project number is fine - each individual WU is identified by the Project Number (eg p2610) along with the Run/Clone/Gen numbers which should be shown in the log just before work starts

eg:
[13:27:27] Project: 2610 (Run 1, Clone 97, Gen 2)
[13:27:27]
[13:27:28] Assembly optimizations on if available.
[13:27:28] Entering M.D.
[13:27:36] Protein: Protein
[13:27:36] Writing local files
[13:27:38] Extra SSE boost OK.
[13:27:39] Completed 0 out of 500000 steps (0 percent)
as long as at least one of the Run/Clone/Gen numbers is different then it's a seperate WU

Welcome to the team :)

edit: just noticed your location - I was there myself for 5 years or so

Cheers guys :)

And my username is Steedie, same as the boards :)

Waiting for the stats to update now so it shows my first WU done hehe, how exciting :D

The stats are a little out of sync at the moment what with all these rich people buying PS3 and folding on them, the stanford servers weren't up to standard :p i think its calming down though now, im still waiting for 2 WU's i finished yesturday to show up though :S

hope you dont mind me hijacking this thread, but I too have been setting up everything with a CPU I can find to start folding. It started when I did my PS3 firmware update on thursday. I run a computer training centre and today I have installed the GUI client on 6 of my employees systems and I just finished installing the background client to 10 student systems :D - I have another 13 student systems but they are old machines so I'm not sure if they would handle it ok or not, P3 733's with 256MB RAM?

Have to wait and see how those numbers start coming in now - my user ID is joebobslappy by the way.

I'd say do everything :) but really the 733's would probably take literally months to finish a single WU now and so would only give you like 5PPD :p and the electricity they would use would be awful, so not really much point adding those to your fold unfortunately, maybe add them to a different project?

do you think they would handle something like SETI ok?

@Steedie - Your very first WU - I think it was around my 20th that I became hooked :D Welcome and you'll find your offical stats here

Any questions just ask :)

@joebobslappy - and your are here
As above - not worth the electric to fold on a p3. But nice little farm you've got their.

My p3 733 does 1 unit every 3 months or so. Its just not worth it unfortunately, particularly with only 256mb of ram.

You should really use the command line client for those machines. Its just as easy to set up as the gui one but it runs invisibly to the user and runs quicker too. Here's a quick guide.

They'd be able to Fold, as I do on my Linux home server with its 733 MHz P3. I get about 20-30 PPD out of the machine so I reckon you would get similar performance.

Oooooooo cool, I only got 57 points for that WU, pfft :( lol

And omg I got a certificate and everything :p

57 points? That doesn't sound right. I didn't think that those small WUs were still in circulation. I'd check on it for you but the stats pages seem to be down ATM.

I was all ready to go on about EUEs and Stability till I realised that 57 points probably just meant you had a 158* unit :p
