After having problems with Nero / Vista and audio sync problems i switched to ConvertXtodvd. Doing so cured my audio sync problem ruling out Vista as the issue.

The program has a very clean and easy to use user interface, automatically creating chapters, audio adjustments etc...

I converted and burned a 700mb avi file in 1hr (spec in sig) and the end result was flawless.

Try VSO its a lot better.

Not in my experience it isn't. Winavi 8 here I come if it will work :)
Saying that, other people have recommended DVD Flick and DVD Santa. I wonder if any of these use 4 cores?
Addendum: ImTOO AVI to DVD Converter v3.0 supports multi threading.

both winavi and convertx have given me out of sync audio in the past, usually a new version solves it though, convertx gets updated a lot more often than winavi
