i finally got around to buying DiRT this morning, cranked everything up to max, blah blah, patched, only when changing settings, it doesnt restart the game, just closes.. but thats not the problem, the problem is, everynow and then, it crashes.. during races, like just now it crashed randomly, before it made my pc reboot :S

i kept a eye on temps, im in watercooling and both gpu's sit at 50-55C under load and my cpu will never go higher than 45C...

anyone know of this issue and how to fix it, ive got patch v1.1, spec in sig

Ive had the changing graphics problem as well, i had to Ctrl Alt Del out and stop the game. Also i set the shadows to ultra BUT WHEN I START THE GAME AGAIN THEY HAVE GONE BACK TO HIGH. Ive never had a crash to desktop but sometimes the game starts to load (black screen) but goes no further. Try the usual and update the game (patch 1.2 is the latest i think) and update DX9c and gfx drivers, Did you defragment after instalation as its a large game.
 
ive just defragged now :) and i saw the 1.2 patch, but didnt see anything in it that would affect anything other than issues im not having. as for the drivers, im on the quadro 162.50 drivers.

Cant remember what drivers im on but they were the latest NV official ones from about 3 weeks ago.
Its probably worth sticking the new patch on as they sometimes do more than is shown on the release notes. What about sound drivers as its possible for them to throw a spanner in the works although not as much in recent years. are you on the latest DX9C update, this has caused me the odd issue in the past.
 
got june dx release, the latest i think. your probably on about the 162.18 official release, that went from beta to official. just checking my sound card drivers now.... definetly have the latest ones lol, typical creative havnt updated them since oct 06.... even though this sound card has oh so many buggs and buzzing noises all the time.

ill try the 1.2 patch now :)

didnt crash for a while, but it froze just after i saved profile on winning a second tier race... just a black screen, could hear sounds, like the garage pit noise, people talking kind of thing, but didnt hear the cheesy american "whoo you won! your a winner!" or anything like that, so manualy restarted pc after not being able to alt-tab or ctr-del

Could try stock clocks on CPU/video card. Some games just don't like overclocked systems, even when the system is 100% stable.
 
tempting, but a e6600 @ 2.4 isnt nice with sli gtx lol, i just had another crash, im getting used to it, im thinking it might be the fact i got quadro 162.50 drivers instead of forceware 162.18 drivers....

might give it a shot in a bit

ok, had a random crash again earlier when on the last of 4 stages on tier 5/6 cant remember, but then i remembered that i took off my dominator memory cooler earlier on this morning to lend my mate 1 of my sticks to test his system, and didnt put the stick back in never mind the cooler, now ive got all 4 sticks back in and the cooler.

could it have been possible the ram was overheating?

What sound settings have you got on? I don't know the game, but if it has EAX switch that off and try going back to software accelerated. This often reduces lockups for me in other games.
Worth a try even if it doesn't help.
 
oh, forgot to update, all sorted, quadro drivers, after reformat and i defrag everytime before i play, smooth as silk :D

everythng max/ultra running at 60fps all the time (use vsync)

just got 65% in career today, bout 10 mins ago actually, playing pro mode, its so fun!!!!!
