I bought another copy of Windows XP the other day because all of the times licence had been used on my old copy that came with an old pc (it had been registered more than 7 times). So yeah, basically i formatted, reinstalled everything. Registered the Key online...100% ok. I installed vista x64 the other day (a few days after Win XP) confident in the knowledge that i had another 6 or so licenses left (like my old copy). I formatted, installed vista - Everything 100% Ok.
Yesterday however, i installed XP after not being pleased with the performance of Vista x64 on my machine (IT EATS RAM!). After Windows XP installation was complete and i was on desktop, the little yellow window popped up to say "Activate Windows within 30 days" So i clicked it expecting it to go though to the window which tells me that i have activated it Correctly. But Did it? No.
I was given a screen which said "We have detected that this serial number has been activated the limited number of times that was permitted" or something.
I have phoned the shop as i am sure they used the serial for Pcs they built in the shop, and they take absolutely no responsibility at all. Being an OEM version of Windows XP Home Edition, i also can get NO support at all from Microsoft (as you know). So now i am in the situation of possibly having Windows Vista x64 license used too many times aswell as my Windows XP serial being used too many times. I am So angry with the shop, and being a student i do not have 200 pounds to replace my 2 Microsoft operating systems  :( :( :(

Its supposed to use it all. No point in having gigs of ram sitting there doing nothing. If anything such as a game needs more, it will unload what it needs to run.

LMFAO! How on earth can you be mad with the shop, this is your inability to read what the activation wizard is telling you. All you had to do is phone MS and go through an automated answer phone..... lmao.

You can do it as many times as you like as long as you dont break any of the rues, EG: have it installed on 2 systems.

edit - like your SIG, seems hipercritical ;)

Why did you ever buy another copy to begin with? It's also nothing to do with the shop. There's no "6 times or so" limit on activating either.

If you reinstall regularly you will ocassionally get refused online activation, but you click the "use telephone" button and phone them up, and after all of 30 seconds and answering two or three questions "How did you obtain this copy of windows?" and "Is it installed on any other computers at the moment?" or "Is this the first time you're activating?" you're going again. Easy peasey, no need to get angry or spend £200.
