hey,

i think ive got a problem with my rig getting too hot i say i think as im really not too sure as to what counts as too hot.

im running at 65 celcius idle and 75+ under load is this to high? if so what kinda temps should i be lookin at getting?

i have taken the side off the case and this has dropped the temp to 51 celcius when idle

Ive looked at getting a Zalman cnps9700 cooler but am unsure wether it will fit on my board as the chipset heatsink seems very close to the cpu socket

This is my spec:

Case: asus vento 7700 (2 x 80mm fans at back and 1 x 80mm fan at front)
MB: asus p5B
CPU: Intel Pentium D 820 2.8ghz (with stock cooler)
Ram: Corsair 2Gb DDR2 667MHZ/PC2-5400
GPU: Asus GeForce 7600GT 256Mb

Any help would be appreciated?

well iam on a pentiumD 935, ive installed a arctic pro7 cooler my temps are 18-22 idle 39-43 max under stress.

so i would say they are abit high tbh

i'm no expert at this but to me a 65C idle seems extremly high. I'm running at 2.9ghz (on a 2.2ghz chip) and it's idling at 32C but has got a after market cooler so i suppose that helps a bit

That idle temp is high, but then those chips do run very hot on the stock cooler. You really need to have a balanced air flow in and out the case, so might be worth adding another fan pushing air in - maybe from the side?

A good heatsink/fan is a must if you want to drop the temps significantly.
