I'm not sure if it's worth upgrading my gfx card, any advice please?

Hi all, my current PC is starting to slow signs of slowness on the latest games, but I'm unsure if the whole things needs to be changed or if a simple new graphics card would keep me going for another couple of years.

My current spec is this:
VTX3D 2GB RADEON HD 6950 PCI-E 2.1
Intel Core i5 2500K Unlocked (4 x 3.3GHz) 6MB
Corsair 800W modular PS
Asus P8H67-M PRO (Intel H67) B3
Corsair Vengeance 8GB XMS3 PC3-12800 1600MHz (2x4GB) - Lifetime Warranty (DDR3)

I'm happy to spend £200 or so on a new card, can't really afford to replace everything right now due to a 5 month old baby!

Cheers all!

Hi m8
I run a 2500K with a 290 (XFX version) and they are a great combination. Do you overclock the CPU ? It could make a bid difference in some games and could be the cause of your slowdowns - I run mine ar 4.6MHz with a bit of tweaking, but do read around it and take it easy.

You'll be fine. I was running a 2500k with a 290 and now I've got a 2600k with a 290. No issues with it what so ever, just make sure you overclock your CPU, should easily reach 4.3ghz-4.5ghz.

It's not ideal for some CPU sensitive games but they usually are few and far between. Most games should be more than fine with a 3.3Ghz i5 (Just look at any recent games recommended specs)

Dying light is quite sensitive to CPU scaling but I find most well optimised games are more GPU dependent.

Funilly enough I sometimes run my i7 with HT off like an i5 and run it stock at 3.6Ghz when crossfire is disabled on certain games.
