There seems to be a massive problem with getting my PC to me in the states. They want me to fly back to the UK and record the FCC ID from every bleeding component, ship it and then fly back here to the US. Whole bloody process will cost as much as rebuilding it, if not more. Coupled with out internet being disconnected a few days ago and my PS3 being FUBAR leaves me with nowt to fold on :(

Perhaps if something works out, I'll be back up there giving you guys a run for your money :D. But for now, fold on :)

Bad luck... that's damn ridiculous :(

(edit) Here's an idea... maybe you could post a list of components, and other people who have those components could check what the ID is and post back?

I'm not entirely sure, since the man I spoke to from FedEx UK seems to be as thick as two short planks. Plus my mum who is holding the PC is making it very hard for me in every aspect. All I can do is wait and hope (been nearly 2 months and still no sign of progress so there's little hope) or have the PC sent to a friend and ask him to send it to me (same problem will occur I think). Or the final option is have him take it apart and sell it.

EDIT:
@Mattus

That's not a bad idea, well here's to hoping. I'll list 'em all here but I'm not sure if I should make another thread in the General Hardware section or not?

Sounds like a royal pain in the ass to me.

Take the opportunity to build yourself a nice new one and sell the old bits. I imagine if any components went wrong under warranty you'd be in the right country then, assuming you have warranty on the old ones.

why do you have to say what it is? wont they just xray and use sniffer dogs for the usual anyways?
That's what I thought, but we did all the paperwork here as my mum is a little incompitent when it comes to this thing so all she had to do was stick 1 sheet of paper to the box and organise collection. The guy from FedEx refused to collect it because it did not have the FCC ID on the shipping lable, but since it is not a pre-built machine they want the FCC ID from every bleeding component.

That's true. Some of them had warranry remaining but some things like the V2000 are not here (or at least I've not found one yet). Dust filters are an absoloute must in the house (4 smokers plus 13 dogs and a bird).

Could you not just leave your PC in the UK, and use a remote access technology to access it from a cheap computer in the States?

Rgds
That would me a friend would have to put up with the noise of the machine and pick up the running costs. I'm also quite sure that remote accessing the machine would brick GPU Folding since it uses video driver hooks.

If you use Terminal services then yes. But if you use VNC or Dameware or PCTools then you're ok.

I think the list parts thing is the best idea :)

Would have been done had the pc not been 70 cm x 72 cm x 30 cm and weigh 28kg. Some how taking that on public transport and on the plane would have been a small problem.

Break it down, take the components in the suitcase and ship the case separately? Or just bite the bullet, sell everything here and start again from fresh. Probably the most fun idea :)

Just send the components, you can buy another case. The postage costs are probably worth more than the case anyway.

Saying that though the size and weight should not be a problem, it's within the weight limits of transatlantic flights and many suitcases are larger than that anyway.

The airline (US Airways) didn't give a limit on the checked luggage, I'd only ever done flights in Europe before so I guessed the limit would be 25kg like every other airline.

First shipment try was a disaster but my mum tried again yesterday and this time they didn't ask for the FCC codes?!. Should have it with me on Monday :D

I'm wondering if it's travelling with a tower heatsink attached :o

I used to ship PCs to customers without the heatsink attached if it was a 'performance' PC.

Good news anyway :)

It has an oversized cooler attached, there was no way given what was fitting inside the case besides the computer. It's wedged in real tight so all should be well, if not it can be fixed.

Well the PC got here today, but it suffered some damage in transport. 3 of the 4 sticks of RAM were out of their sockets. The south bridge cooler is mangled to kingdom come. One SATA cable was broken inside the SATA port. Zalman fanmate was shattered. Hard drive rail bent. 7 gouges in the top of my V2000 :(

Managed to get XP up and running but Vista refuses to boot now (including the install media). Going to have a tinker tomorrow if I can but for now, it's folding again :D

There's quite a lot of scuff and dent marks on the PC's box along with a few holes that generated the gouges. As for the destroyed SATA cable and bent drive rail I'm really at a loss on that.
