Right, I've been running the W7 RC for a while.

Got hold of home premium and want to start afresh, 64 bit so I can use all my ram. Just checking before I do that I have everything under control..!

Firstly... My HD is partitioned, OS, apps and games are on a 120gb partition, the other partition is all my documents.

So, I'm not too fussed about backing up bookmarks/save games etc. Is it literally just a case of booting from disc, going through the procedure and selecting C drive as the install location? This will then be formatted, and installation will continue? Without touching my other partition?

Is there anything I specifically need to do?

yep that it :)

You should always back up regardless, even if the files you want are on different partitions.

Chances are if you pay attention you won't format the wrong partition, but stranger things have happened and to be absolutely sure your files should be off the disk you're installing to.

Amen to that.

See if you can borrow an external HD for a couple of hours.
Belt & braces. :D

The installer won't format the partition by default. If you want it to, you can select to do so when choosing the partition (something like "partition options" under the list of drives).

Correct, but it will fnd the exisitng windows install and place the entire install in a folder called Windows.old

Remember to unplug any external hard drives or make sure not to format them on the reinstall. I managed to format both my externals on my last format thinking they were partitions on my current drive, i wish i had been more awake.
