OEM: tied to the motherboard it's first installed on. Once you've installed it, you can't legally install it on a different motherboard without buying a new copy.

Retail: can be reinstalled as many times as you like on whatever hardware you like.

It is my understanding that you can use an OEM copy on a 2nd motherboard if its a replacement for the original one if the original got damaged, and the 2nd is a replacement. Im not sure on the specifics, like if it has to be the same make/model of board, or if you have to contact MS or something when using the 2nd board.

If the board is replaced under warranty through the manufacturer or supplier then you can re-install without breaking the EULA.

Can a person change the board to the same make and model without breaking the EULA and not going through the warranty process ? - question for Burnsey :)

Retail can be installed on any pc belongs you install from the old pc and only one instance.

Only if it's for repair purposes and you are the system builder. As a SB you have the right to provide a warranty service where you have the ultimate right to choose the replacement board.

just had a look through your other posts, don't fret about asking questions mate, that's how we all start off :)

usually in the 'sticky' at the top of each subforum, it'll have a ton of useful information on most topics, but you can always ask/search too.

personally, i'd download the Windows 7 x64 beta (free from the MS website), that's valid until August, and by then they'll either have released another beta, or the final product.

it works fantastically :)
