stressed with laptop. possible broke screen

**UPDATE ON PAGE 29**

i have a dell laptop (6months old).
its an inspirion. cant remember the model number.
15.6"

Laptop boots up, although a few times it beeped 8 times.
the screens is blank / black and nothing displays.

the laptop displays on an external monitor fine.
so im thinking the screen is bust ?

tried restoring laptop to a previous state.
tried the FN button to switch to laptop screen and external screen.
run full dell diagnostics but it passed on everything.

its the intel built in graphics so im thinking it will be a new motherboard?

6months old. deary me.

i take it reinstalling it to factory reset wouldnt fix it ?

any help appriciated.

EDIT: forgot to say when the laptop first displayed on the external monitor i noticed the clock was wrong on bottom right of screen. it's never done that before.

For a start if its only 6 months is not still covered under warranty, either manufacture or store?
Might be worth giving that a should if you have hardware issues already, even more so if its not been subjected to any external abuse!

Hold the screen up to the light when it's on and see if you can see anything, if so, it's most likely a dead backlight. Since it's displaying on an external monitor, it's unlikely to be a graphics card fault.

Laptop screens are pretty easy to replace if you can use a screwdriver and aren't particularly heavy handed, although if it's only 6 months old it would still be under warranty (unless you've broken it).

still under warrenty.

no drops or anything. not a mark on it.

i have emailed dell support tonight but will take 24hours for a responce.

i hate hassel lol.

wait a minute - you've got a broken laptop UNDER WARRENTY and you are on a public forum asking whats wrong with it

....its broke - get it fixed under the warrenty - thats what its there for

i have emailed tech support.

i guess im on a public forums asking because im a nut case and stressed.
sorry.

If its Win7 try this:

Right click on desktop - select "Screen Resolution".

Click "Identify".

Under Multiple Displays, select "Show desktop only on" either 1 or 2 depending on what the external display is.

Don't select duplicate or extend. And remember, if it doesn't work just leave it for 15 seconds and it will revert the changes.

if you are really bored the 8 beeps are probably a bios error code - look it up and take your mind off that half empty cup

Cross posting in GD, and demanding an answer only having waited an hour.
Also the laptop is under warranty so you should be speaking to Dell, not us.
Poor form overall.

Have you tried running the diagnostics test? If you post the model I can tell you what to press.

That checks the inverter, etc. I doubt it's the graphics card if it displays on an external monitor. Dell support are exceptional from my experience.

You do seem to worry too much. You'll get it sorted under warranty.

In the meantime have an internet massage  :D
