im stressed (laptop problem

Have you tried running the diagnostics test? If you post the model I can tell you what to press.

That checks the inverter, etc. I doubt it's the graphics card if it displays on an external monitor. Dell support are exceptional from my experience.

i ran the dell diagnostics and it all passed with flying colours.

Wow, you're going to end up swinging from a noose in your later life if you carry on getting stressed at such inconsequential things such as a laptop screen that's under warranty doesn't work.

Ahem..
First world problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you try the above suggestion regarding the display options using alternate displays? Also try holding the screen up to a light to see if you can see anything.

I'm guessing its a faulty screen, which will be covered in the warranty. Stop worrying and phone Dell in the morning :)

I've moved your thread back to Laptops where it should be and merged in your original thread on the topic, next time please consider that if you're asking at almost 11pm there may not be many people around to answer any questions so it's probably worth waiting a little while to see if there are any answers.

Good luck getting it sorted, it's well within the warranty period so you should have no problems there.

thanks for your help and advice and will act accordingly in future :)

bit of an update: got my brother to open the screen area and the cable was all in tact so its not a broken / loose cable.
got an email off Dell and they say they will replace the screen under warrenty and to arrange pick up. this pick up will take 10-14 days to get the machine back to me from "pick up" or you can take advantage of an Engineer visit who will repair it at your home for £29.

considering i only had the standard warrenty RTB i have decided to have an enginner come out. i actualy think £29 is very reasonable.

anyone ever had one of these £29 engineer visits ?

PS- the reason i was getting stressed was i use the laptop at work (security) during breaks for tv and internet.
i work 16hour shifts and its the only thing that keeps me sane lol.

anyway enough of my waffling...

Dell have always posted me the parts and I have fitted them myself as I work with their kit every day in work anyway.

If you don't mind forking out the £29 then go for it. The engineer will be done and gone in no time. If it was me I would argue the £29 and try to get it for free.

Hopefully it will be fixed in no time.

ok final update.

engineer came and replaced the screen and a cable.
all working now.
probably took him about 30 mins.

feel a bit of an idiot now for not selecting the in home repairs
for £60 when i bought the dell laptop online from dell.

i will next time !

:)

Ps- although it was still under warrenty (RTB) im still impressed with Dell
only charging £29 to come out the next day and repair it.
the alternative was 7-14 days repair "from collection".

Sounds like a good result overall there so glad you got it sorted. If you don't need the service again while in the warranty period then you've still saved yourself some money compared to buying it at the outset.
