I'm tempted to go for an iPhone - couple of questions

My current situation:

02 contract (which I last upgraded in September 2007 before the stupid 18th September 2007 deadline - so I can upgrade to an iPhone)
£25 a month contract (18 months)

I'm tempted to get an iPhone because I do like the idea of having a decent mobile internet device for web and email. I have a couple of questions:

1) I want to access my work and university email, both of which are on Microsoft Exchange Servers. I currently access them from Outlook / Entourage at work, or using the Microsoft Outlook Web Access thing. Can I set these up ok with the email program?
2) Can you VPN on the iPhone?
3) If Apple releases an updated iPhone, can I assume I can just sell the old one and buy the new one? Would there be any issues with activation etc?

Ta

1) If it's just a website (which I believe the Web access thing is), then yes
2) No, not unless you jailbreak it
3) Yes, change the SIM and reactivate in iTunes (Done it myself with a few iPhones on the same SIM) :)

Is there anyway of checking EDGE coverage in my area? I'm guessing it'll be fine in London, but what about around me in Oxfordshire?

Oh yeah, another thing. Since the SDK is being released soon, does that effectively mean that half of the reason to unlock the iphone is removed since 3rd party apps will be freely available?

BUMP for these questions?

Yes you can - the iPhone has built in VPN support!

You set it up in General > Network and then a menu option appears to connect to it ;)

EDIT: EDGE round Oxfordshire... hmm... okay in patches but not others. I can sit in North Oxford BMW (Wolvercote roundabout) and get a perfect EDGE signal, but Abingdon seems a no-EDGE area, neither is Kidlington or round where I love (Woodstock).

Oh and also the iPhone supports Exchange servers if they have IMAP access enabled. You don't have to use OWA.

Damnit, I live in Abingdon, and work just outside Didcot, so not looking good

Is there anywhere to find out for certain?

So just to clear things up, can I use the email program to access Exchange email servers?

1) My college email is this pop server: icex.imperial.ac.uk which I can access anywhere.
2) My work email is exchange35.***.ac.uk, which I need to VPN into to access.

I think Didcot has EDGE, but I might be imagining that...

GPRS is still perfectly usable for emails and for light browsing though.

Didcot does have Edge as I live there, but it is a bit flaky. Although I suspect that I may have a duff iPhone concerning Edge as seems to lose it fairly quickly after picking up Edge.
