If you had to choose between John Williams or Hans Zimmer for your film's soundtrack who would you choose?

The more I think about it, the more I think it's entirely dependant upon the film's genre.

Williams is absolutely ideal for a nostalgic action-adventure, whereas Zimmer can add intense emotion to a serious film.

As much as i love Williams i'd go with Zimmer, he can pretty much turn his hand to any subject and you dont think "bloody hell, this music is crap".
He's gone from Gladiator to Kung Fu Panda, Matchstick men to Sherlock Holmes....guys quality.

if you want a big, bold orchestral score, then go with Williams, on the otherhand, if you want a score that stirrs the emotions, go for Zimmer

I don't think we really know what either are capable of since we only hear what they are commissioned to do. Both are geniuses.

Without John Williams we wouldnt have had the classic and well known scores of:

Star Wars
Jaws
Indiana Jones
Superman
ET
Jurassic Park
Home Alone

John Williams hands down. While he is getting more repetitive in his old age I find a lot of Zimmer's stuff quite boring, I hated what he did to the Pirates of the Caribbean music and felt Klaus Badelt did a much better job, though I do enjoy listening to the Gladiator soundtrack.
