My dads just got back from living in canada for the last 4 years.

work bought him an imac.

I went to put osx mountain lion on it but its currently running a core 2 duo 2ghz and 1GB ram.

How easy is it to upgrade the ram on an imac?

Don't know exactly which model (presume 7,1), however for any of the Intel machines it'll be a dead easy job.

ok trying to talk him into going with 4GB instead of just 2GB.

How easy is it to change the HDD to and SSD and can you use any?

Changing the hard drive to an SSD is a bit more difficult, involves using suction cups to take the glass off, then removing bits until you get to the hard drive. Not a difficult job as such, there's just a lot to do.

It definitely makes a big difference, so if he is considering keeping the machine for a couple more years it's probably an upgrade worth going for.
