Hi all,

I have been given an iMac 2007 (7,1) with the following:

2.4GHz Intel Core2Duo
4GB RAM
300GB HDD
Leopard OS X

I was wondering what is worth upgrading to keep it as fast/modern as possible?

HDD, CPU, GFX, RAM, OS, Logic Board etc. There are no limits... (unless it costs more than a replacement of course!).

Also the parts need to actually exist...!!!

Hard drive, that's it.

You can do the RAM yourself but I have a 2007 iMac as well and while it can take 6GB, you don't seem to be able to get it anywhere and when I did find somewhere that stocked it was about £180 or something stupid. I have no idea why this is.

The official line is that it will only take 4gb though.

Edit: Tell a lie, mine is Early 2008. 8,1. Yours may genuinely top out at 4GB then.

Hard drive's a pain in the arse as well.

SSD would make an big difference. Then you could move the existing hard drive to a external fire wire enclosure.

You may need a more recent version of OSX to get trim support (but I'm not sure)
