Hi guys,

My boss in work wants to upgrade the harddrive of the iMac, he says he wants to fit it out with an SSD. Could anyone give any recommendations for one? The budget is around £300.

Many thanks!

Just upgraded from a 120gb Kingston SSD to a Samsung 840 Evo myself. Really not a hard job to do once you have read the guides on ifixit. Hardest job is getting the glass back on over the display without trapping any dust inside it! I replaced the superdrive with the SSD and I am using the existing drive as a time machine backup drive. I have read about issues with the fans when removing the standard hard drive but I gather there are ways round it with fan control software.

I would just go bigger Evo for the budget you have:

Thanks for the reply mate. Yeah that was the one I was looking at the 840 evo 500gb. I was just a bit taken back by the youtube guides with all the screws and such. I've built numerous PC's myself but for some reason dismantling an iMac seems a bit sketchier! No idea why! :D

I'll be reading through the ifixit guide tonight then.
