iMac 2013 - Haswell Refresh Released

I feel like selling my entire gaming rig and picking up a 27" in replacement. I know I'll get back into gaming one of these days, though and I don't have room for both!

They have not came out too well, I cant see any difference to the old one.

Very impressed with the fusion drive though - 350mb reads 650mb writes. It feels just like a SSD for speed.

I went for the trackpad and full keyboard since its for business and i use the keypad all the time its a bit of a shame that its wired rather than wireless, my only minor niggle with it.

I have chucked a couple of games from my steam account to check it out/give me something to do at lunchtime, counterstrike GO and UFO - both run excellently at 2560x1440.

If you want an idea of graphical performance, using the benchmark thread here - it scores 901. So it puts it in the mix of the lower end of 680's/670's and things like that.

Really pondered switching to one of these, but I like tinkering too much :(

Also Mark, I gather that you can o/c the gfx somewhat in Windoze for a decent boost ;)

I like tinkering too Si as you know, this is my work machine though so its not really an issue for all the use it will get, I got the upgrade for the gpu in case I couldnt get on with it at work and id have to switch back to a pc (and send the mac home) but its doing everything i want, I love the trackpad instead of the mouse!

Ah right. I'd love one tbh but don't want to find myself switching back to a PC a few months down the line. Damn tempting though! Love, lovely machines

rMBP will have to do as my 2nd machine :D

Unless you're into games, then as a current iMac owner I can't see the point of this upgrade. I've yet to make my mid-2011 i5 break sweat. I've certainly never heard the fans kick in once to date.

I suspect it's the same story for most owners of iMacs who simply use them for everyday tasks e.g. MS Office, minor photo editing, music, movies, surfing etc.

I find there's a yawning gap between 'need' and 'want'. I suspect that short of a major hardware failure most iMacs are good for at least 6 years.

My upgrade cycle is around 3 to 4 years.

Although, next purchase i am tempted to go with a Mac Mini (it should be pretty powerful by then), and run dual monitors as it seems to me spending money on a new screen everytime I upgrade is a little silly. As good as the new iMac screen is, my older iMac's screen is perfectly good.

I've got an air at home, my PC is only plugged Into my tv upstairs I barely use it anymore.

The connectivity of my apple stuff is great, I feel properly organised for the first time :)

Is yours not only last years model? I thought the screens were identical.

I bought my dad an iMac 5 years ago, it's only dual core and 1gb ram but he still loves it and it does everything he needs, still looks great too
