yeah for all id be gaming anyways it will probably do the job - I wonder how much better the gfx card in the new MBPs is compared to that of the imac?

Put 4GB of ram in the iMac, get the C2D Extreme version and just play at a slightly lower resolution, the iMac screen scales pretty well from what I have seen on my friends machine.

Cheers for that - is it easy to upgrade the RAM yourself and does it void warranty? Anyone here have the imac and able to comment? I remember reading ages ago about some screen issues with them - is this still a problem?

The GPU in the MBP is better than the iMac though. And you can stick 4GB of Ram in. You can only get 2.6 MHz CPU for it at the minute but that might be revised in January.

The 2600XT is better than the 8600M. But the resolution in the MBP is much lower than the iMac.

To up the RAM on an iMac there is a flap in the middle of the bottom edge of the iMac, its very simple.

Thanks for the help guys - think imac is what im after - like i said i don't need laptop anymore so for a suitable desktop i think the imac is definitely the way to go. If I decide I want to game then I can sell my old windows box and put some of the money towards a dedicated rig.
