I've just joined the "Mac World" and purchased a 27" iMac. I have this hooked up via mini display port to HDMI to my 42" LCD. How can I completely switch off the Mac display when watching a film on the TV? At the moment the screen goes black, but it's still pumping out some serious light!

Cheers :)

You could set up hot corners using Expose and configure one of those to blank the screen.

System Prefences then click on Display. Should be an option there to turn off the iMac screen.

Can't see that option, just has brightness, detect displays, colour etc

That works, but it switches of both of the displays not just the iMac screen :(

Have you got it set to display mirroring?, Have you tried using the extended desktop option and then moving the Movie from your imac screen across to the LCD and then full screening it there, then tried the ctrl+shift+esc on your imac...not sure if it works but worth a try...
