Hi, is there a program that will let you chose either the speaker on the imac for sound or the speaker you have plugged in without have to unplug you own speakers from the 3.5mm jack

why i ask is because i want to use the speakers on the imac for daily use of sound i.e email, web and so on but then be able to switch to my Klipsch 2.1 speakers for music when i am in the mood but i don't want to keep unplugging the 2.1 speakers.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but is there any way to do this with headphones on my imac?

I plug the headphones in, which cuts the sound off from the speakers...which is fine.
However, to get the sound back in the speakers i have to reach round and mess about unplugging the headphones. I'd like to be able to leave them plugged in and digitally switch betweeen the two.

Sound Prefs only gives me one option. Headphones (if theyre plugged in), and Builtin speakers if theyre not. Same with Soundsource. Only one output is ever listed :(

I think this will only work if you have headphones which are on a separate sound channel. I have a set of plantronics ones here and they show up in the sound devices tab as well as the built it ones. This is because it runs on its own audio channel (i think).
