Hi guys,

I'd like to make the switch and enter the world of Mac's but would like some advice.

I know OSX Leopard is coming out soon, so I wanted to know if it would be better to hold off buying until its out because im worried they will release better spec machines when the new OS is released. Is this likely to happen or will the hardware stay the same and only the OS be new, which I will be able to upgrade to?

Cheers in advance

Yeah hold on until October I'm pretty sure there will be an update, there was a update expected this month but it never happened so they are overdue really.

lol why does everyone worry about upgrades so much? so what if they change? it's not going to be a monumental change, and even if it is, so what? it'll still run leopard like the new ones will. it's like nvidia fanbois waiting until something bigger and better from nvidia comes along. there will always be somehing bigger and better.

simple fact is, if you want one and have the money, get one now :)

Because its not a cheap thing to buy and if by waiting 3 months I'm going to get better hardware and come with Leopard (id have to buy this separate if I bought the machine now) I'd rather do that. I'm not made of money.

"Appleinsider reports that the long awaited iMac updates will finally be released in mid to late summer -- "sometime between the latter half of July and mid-August".

Appleinsider reiterates that the 20" and 24" iMacs will see radical redesigns "both slimmer and sleeker" than today's offerings.

When the project manifests later this summer, it will represent the first major industrial design overhaul to hit the flagship all-in-one consumer Apple desktops in nearly three years."

3 months isn't long to wait when you're spending nearly £1400 on the machine.

Normally I'd say just buy it now, but the iMac is due for a major upgrade and redesign. Unless you're a huge fan of the current design I'd be tempted to wait a bit and see what comes along in terms of upgrades..I'd expect something a little more like the cinema displays...

But the point is, if you keep waiting 3 months you're ALWAYS going to get better hardware. That's how hardware is - it evolves at a rate of knots!

actually no, apple don't update their hardware that often.

also, the upcoming imac update is not just a cpu/chipset bump or anything, it is a complete redesign.

if you have a computer that wil serve you 3 months, I would wait 3 months.
