Hi

Im looking at getting a 21.5 imac but Im unsure what storage to get, as default its a standard 1tb drive, but looking I can upgrade to a 1tb fusion drive?
I understand this uses flash storage as well so things will possibly boot/load faster.

Has anyone got the fusion drive, is it worth it over the standard 1tb drive?

thanks

Well the Fusion Drive is merely a 128GB SSD and a 1TB mechanical drive (actually giving you 1.1TB of storage). It uses the SSD until you have more data than can be stored on it, then moves data around dependent on which you access most frequently. You can split the drives up if desired as well.

In short, no-brainer.

That said, you could get an external SSD in a USB enclosure and boot off that...just a thought!

USB doesn't pass through TRIM commands from the OS to the SSD though, even if forced on from something like TRIM Enabler.... gets canny sludgy over time, although it'll work for normal use until you get sick of the OS slowing down.

Better off either buying new or going the Thunderbolt SSD route, as TB passes through TRIM fine.
