Heya everyone,

I just got hold of an iMac G3 for £15 on ebay and I bought to have a little go at some modding.

Basically I want to rip out the CRT and components and replace them with standard components and an LCD Screen.

Basically to start everything I need to discharge the screen. I've read a lot of articles saying I should discharge the screen, but none of them actually explain how.

I only read one article saying the screen will discharge after a week or 2 of being unplugged.

So anyone have any knowledge of this sort of thing?

Im really quite excited, but just a heads up, progress will be a bit slow over the next month or 2 while I finish my degree + move, but expect quite a bit of planning before hand :D

R5GTT You are a life saver, I have been looking all over the internet for that exact sort of description, but no where had it.

I picked it up today, will have a little play and take some photos tonight and stick up.

The only niggle is that it hasnt got the cover of the side which hides the connections (I'll show you in the pictures later tonight)

I'm still planning on doing this, hopefully this weekend I can strip everything apart.

The main thing I need to do is discharge the CRT - my main fear is whether there are certain parts I really shouldn't ever touch i.e. when lifting the CRT out of the casing, what can I touch to lift it?

Lots of Googling before I approach anything I think.

My plan was to fit an ordinary LCD screen into the case (Keeping my eyes pealed for a cheap one as we speak).

This should then just use a plain old VGA or DVI connection :-)
