at home, you?
OK so i will cut to the chase, i dont know what these are like, whether they're any good or not, im a pc guy, i know nothing about macs lol

OK so, on with the questions

1. is it worth replacing the logic board at all?

2. iv seen the logic boards from the smaller models, as mine is the 20" one, are they compatible or am i dreaming?

3. anyone done it before?

4. what are the chances the psu is affected as well?

i have attempted to repair the original motherboard, but to no avail, and im not really wanting to sink £75 on the bay for one from america without seeking ocuk help

1. is it worth replacing the logic board at all?

Only if it's cheap.

2. iv seen the logic boards from the smaller models, as mine is the 20" one, are they compatible or am i dreaming?

Not compatible I'm afraid

3. anyone done it before?

Not on a G5 iMac, but on iMacs. It's a pain in the arse but it's not impossible or anything. Make sure you have a good guide.

4. what are the chances the psu is affected as well?

Depends what's wrong with it. Does that model of iMac have any Diagnostic LEDs on the board? Those LEDs if they're there will tell you if the MLB is receiving power from the PSU.

it powers up but will not display anything, it did originally power up and display the apple logo before it switched itself off which im assuming was due to burst capacitors, so for 75 quid to get a new logic board off ebay, just not sure what to do, i know i can remove this one and fit it myself

If it powers up then the PSU is likely to be ok.

Have you tried an external display? Did anything come up?

Have you tried booting from this Mac's drive as a target disk?

If either of those things are possible to do they'll help you work out what's up.

Logic board seems like the most likely thing though as the GPU is on there anyway so you just want to rule out the onboard display which you can't really do to a certainty.

Worth a punt for £75 probably.
