I've got a Quad Core i5 27" iMac and tempted to upgrade the hard drive.

I've read the guides on the internet about pulling the glass away from the magnets with suction cups and removing the display which scares me to death !!

Anybody done it before and comment how scary it really is / any tips ?

I have done it. It was fine, but then i have been taking computers to bits for years.

You can pull the glass away with your fingertips.

The trickiest bit is getting to the SATA port, I managed to do it without removing the motherboard. I had to bend it slightly.

I looked at this and then decided a Drobo connected by FireWire 800 is a saner option...

I've all but used by 1tb in the imac now so looking to expand. I keep coming back to the idea of having a nice neat 2gb OS drive and just opening the thing up.

But then the ease of the firewire 800 drive temps me. What sort of speed difference will there be for a FW800 drive vs internal ?
