in my spare time, i make edm. the software and hardware i've used in the past has always been downloadable (logic pro x for example)

however, i recently purchased spectrasonics omnisphere 2. this is not downloadable and comes on 6 or 8 (can't remember exactly) dvd's

so it arrives in the post today and i'm excited to get to grips with it as it looks a fantastic soft synth.

problem is, this is the first dvd i've put into my imac. it accepts the dvd, whirs a little for 5-10 seconds and then ejects it. i've tried it a dozen times.

i am currently updating the os in the hope it may solve the problem elst i've essentially paid nearly £300 for some software i cannot use.

can anyone offer any advice please?

Try another DVD / optical media disc to see if it's the drive. If it is, it's either a £120 repair or just buy a USB DVD drive for <£20 (Samsung ones are pretty cheap).

i tried an audio cd. nothing.

update is nearly finished so will try after a re-boot.

will any external dvd work? i have one so could try that next but it's pretty old, circa 2006

thanks for the tip on the external dvd. my lg that i purchased nearly 10 yrs ago fired straight up and read the dvd instantly which was a blessing as i inspected the disc and the mac drive had put some nasty scratches on it. no wonder they don't supply them as standard anymore.

thanks for the help :)
