The scroll button on my mouse the I got with my iMac last year has stopped working, is there anyway to fix it or is it time to retire it to the loft with the other unused/broken peripherals?

Get a tissue/similar and just rub it up and down, in any direction really, and keep doing this until it works. It's a design flaw with the Mighty Mouse annoyingly.

That works for a while until eventually you end up with this:

...and have to resort to drastic measures. The black stuff is compacted dust and grime, with two rollers being far worse due to vertical scrolling more frequently. As you can see on one it actually doubled the diameter of the roller.

I was rubbing my mouse on stuff for around 3 months with decreasing success, until eventually it started to become too disruptive.

 ;) Fair do's. It's not a patch on a Logtech or even the new MS mice for me. But this is all opinion isn't it.
I know that all mine is good for is being a paperweight.

I also like the mighty mouse though recognise a ball really, really shouldn't be on a mouse in this day and age.

I agree that the ball can be a pain but I like being able to scroll horizontally.

I went back to my Razor Pro Click and the scroll wheel just felt clunky...

Yeah, I'm the same. I'd really like if there were an alternative that would allow me to scroll on both axis but with an optical sensor.

Here a deisng idea i never new why they dodnt implement, a simialr lower pawer laser wheel, instead of a ball/ wheel.

Instead have a smaller less pwoer laser you run you finger over for scrolling, cant be that hard.

Probobly shouldhave patened that for myself lol

Maybe not. Laser mice can be bought now for £10, optical for £5.

The only problem I see with this idea is tactility, you'd basically be rubbing your finger against something rather than rolling it.
