iMac Ram upgrade

I have a iMac 3.06ghz machine with 4GB DDR of Ram and have been told it will take upto 6GB, is it worth spending £120 on a 4GB stick and will I see much difference. I work with RAW files in CS5 and Aperture 3 and at times can get the spinning beach ball. Thoughts please

Is it one of the latest revision iMac's, i.e late 2009 refresh? If so you should be able to use 8GB iirc.

its a 2008 and uses DDR2
