With windows 7 having touch screen and firefox adding support for it, does Apple have it currently or is anything in the pipeline?

I would love a touchscreen iMac! Dunno how practical touchscreen would be but it would look cool! :p

I would bet on seeing and iphone style track pad sooner than that - think the new mighty track pad with an ipad/iphone style touch screen. How awesome would that be.

Also - can the new track pad be hooked up as a 'secondary' input device - for example, using the trackpad to adjust sliders about whilst also using the mouse to perhaps selct a region or scrub video ?

I don't see the need for a desktop touchscreen in any way, it would just be a gimmick. You would have to sit/stand stupidly close to it.

Can't see it myself - the form factor does not lend itself well to using touch for a start. Also, you need the operating system to be built around touch, the same argument around having full operating systems on tablets applies, you would have to hunt and peck to get to most options. Windows 7 supports touch but that does not mean it is a touch based operating system.

It will never take off. Can you imagine spending hours on end using a 27-inch touchscreen? Try it now - touch various things on your monitor. After a short period of time, it would really start to ache.

Touch on Windows 7, along with the Magic Trackpad demonstrate pretty clearly why it's unlikely. Neither add a significant amount to the experience, both demonstrate just how much Windows and OS X are geared towards mouse control rather than touch control.

(also, post 100! Wooooh!)

Having used quite a few of the HP and sony touch screen pc's they literally add nothing to the usability of them at all. Its basically a sales gimmik which you pay a fortune for.

All the touch screen pc's I've used are naff and I see little point in them. The OS doesn't lend itself at all to it.
